LOS ANGELES — Amazon Inc., which just today debuted Fire TV, apparently didn't strategize too much on a likely domain name for its new video streaming and gaming device.
The $99 set-top box shares a name with a video-on-demand porn site. Go ahead, type in FireTV.com and watch your page redirect to FyreTV.com.
Fyre TV, initially launched as IPTV set-top box in 2008 by Ecuadorian business entrepreneur Estefano Isaias, offers 15,000-plus adult films from more than 100 studios on web and Roku, among other third-party set-top boxes.
Amazon's Fire TV, marketed primarily through Amazon.com and direct links from its site, is a tiny box you connect to an HDTV. Amazon on its site said it is "the easiest way to enjoy Netflix, Prime Instant Video, Hulu Plus, low-cost movie rentals, and much more." And by next month, Fire TV users will be able to play thousands of video games with a controller that costs $39.99.
