Kelly Shibari Guests on Margaret Cho's Podcast

LOS ANGELES —  Kelly Shibari guested on comedian Margaret Cho’s ‘Monsters of Talk’ podcast, which is live and can be found on Soundcloud, iTunes and MonstersOfTalk.net.

“Being contacted by Margaret Cho on Twitter was one of those ‘bucket list’ events I am still giddy about,” Shibari said. “I’ve always been such a big fan. We’re close in age, and when in college and she was doing her first tours in the early ‘90s, I’d regularly be compared to her since we were both Asian and bigger than the ‘standard Asian chick. We’ve both embraced our ‘outsideness’ and broken ground just being ourselves, you know?"

She continued, "To be recognized by an icon like Margaret is truly a huge honor, and I was definitely nervous for the first few minutes on her podcast. Once I calmed the hell down, though I think the interview went really, really well. As she told me on Twitter, we’re #EvilTwinsies for sure!”

“I am tremendously grateful to Kelly Shibari, not only for her tremendous and gorgeous work, but for making me feel like I exist,” says Cho said. “We look a lot alike — which is not to feed into a stereotype or anything — but when I see her, I feel validated not only as a sexy woman, but a beautiful one as well. I don't know if I so much see race or size, but I know I see beauty — and that beauty is Kelly Shibari!”

So-called “patron saint” for outsiders and noted comedian Cho is currently on tour with her latest show, “MOTHER,” which has been called her “edgiest tour yet” by critics. For tour dates, ticket sales and more, visit MargaretCho.com

Shibari made adult history in April as the first-ever plus size adult performer featured in Penthouse Forum. With a  black-and-white cover photo by rock-and-roll photographer Se7en, and a photo set by Eddie Powell from New Sensations’ “Big Girls Are Sexy 4,” the seven-page profile gave readers an inside look at Shibari’s background, personality and appeal.
