“We sat down with Time Warner, and they gave us a prospectus on who the viewers were on those channels,” SugarDVD CEO Jax told XBIZ. “They seemed to match up with what our normal customer profile was.”
In the commercial, Patrick wears a business suit and talks about the SugarDVD rental service, urging customers to enter the name “Tera” into the online coupon box to get a free trial membership.
“We felt like Tera had a professional elegance,” Jax said. “She has a big name, but she also has an elegance that we wanted. We tried to make the commercial a little bit sophisticated and polished because of the stations we’d be airing it on. We didn’t want it to be too vulgar and we felt like she could pull it off.”
The commercial will continue beyond January if a sufficient number of customers sign up for the free trial.
“We’ll probably continue running some type of TV ad, but we may change it,” Jax said. “We’re thinking about filming another commercial at the end of January.”
