China Reflects on 2014 Anti-Porn Achievements

HONG KONG — China's anti-pornography authorities on Thursday announced that it had confiscated a total of 15.79 million illegal publications in 2014.

In a press release that reviewed so-called "anti-pornography achievements" in 2014, the National Anti-Pornography and Anti-Illegal Publications Office revealed key statistics and publication violations.

According to the release, 8,344 cases involving pornographic material and illegal publications had been “dealt with” in 2014, including 844 cases of pornographic publications, 2,687 cases of piracy, 584 cases of Internet pornography, and 128 cases involving fake reporters or media organizations, among other cases.

In one case, a violator identified as Zhong was sentenced to 14 months in prison for making 40 yuan ($6.45) for selling 20-plus disks containing porn. He was caught with 242 disks ready to be peddled.

A case involving illegal religious publications was also included on the top 10 major case list. Violators were found guilty of downloading overseas religious e-books, printing them in the Guangdong province and then selling them in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
