Good Vibrations' 2014 Year in Review

SAN FRANCISCO — Looking back on 2014, Good Vibrations says it saw many big-picture sex stories and scandals, and much noteworthy news.

Good Vibrations Staff Sexologist Dr. Carol Queen has curated top-of-the-news items and especially interesting tidbits for her Sexy Sex, Newsy News column on the Good Vibes Magazine, including a year-end roundup of the most notable stories from 2014.

"It's been a truly action-packed year for sex, sexuality and gender in the news. Not all the news has been good — but some has been downright game-changing," Dr. Queen notes, citing marriage equality, trans visibility, reproductive rights, HIV/AIDS, online harassment, global gay rights and consent culture vs. rape culture as stories which gripped us and have far-reaching implications.

As Executive Vice President Jackie Rednour-Bruckman notes, Good Vibrations itself made plenty of news in 2014. The company co-sponsored two top sexuality conferences, CatalystCon and the Feminist Porn Conference; partnered with Consent Matters and the Center for Sex & Culture to promote the Summer of Consent Project; engaged educator and fat activist Virgie Tovar and its customer base to create Abundance, a #SexyAtEverySize celebration of body-positivity; and promoted new app-controlled vibrator the blueMotion from OhMiBod.

President Joel Kaminsky keynoted the industry event series XBIZ 360 and received its Progressive Leadership Award, while Dr. Queen's short essay "What Sex-Positivity Is — And Is Not" gained traction on the Internet.

Additionally, Good Vibrations opened its eighth store, on Kearny St. in downtown San Francisco, while celebrating notable anniversaries of the seven other locations.

Good Vibrations is a San Francisco-based retailer that has operated for more than three decades to provide a comfortable, safe environment for customers seeking quality products, trusted information and educational materials to enhance their sex life. For more info, visit GoodVibes.com
