LONDON — U.K.’s Channel 4 has ordered a new sitcom pilot from “Mighty Boosh” star Rich Fulcher.
The show, “That's Rich,” centers on a family-run porn shop, which finds itself struggling against competition from the online porn industry.
Fulcher, who has penned the pilot, will also star in the sitcom.
"I am so excited to get an opportunity to do a show with the team at Channel 4, the home to cutting edge comedy ... and I plan to do a lot of edgy cutting,” Fulcher quipped.
"Everyone at Channel 4 is so receptive to the show — think “Steptoe” and “Son” set in a porn shop — and I feel like we're in another renaissance of great, original programming."
Nerys Evans, deputy head of comedy at Channel 4, said, "Rich Fulcher is a rare and brilliant force of nature with real funny bones; it'll be amazing to capture his fantastic energy on screen."
In the show, Rich (Fulcher) can't understand why people would choose to view porn online when they could visit his family-run smut emporium. Despite the shop’s troubles, he won’t let his son Alistair modernize it to help keep it afloat.
In the wonderfully wonky "Mighty Boosh," Fulcher plays Bob Fossil, the incompetent owner of the inept zoo, Bob Fossil's Funworld.
“That's Rich” will begin filming in the spring.
