LOS ANGELES — Adult industry notables, academics and media are praising sociologist Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals’ upcoming book, “Exposure: A Sociologist Explores Sex, Society, and Adult Entertainment.”
Published by Greenleaf Book Group, the book will be available to purchase on July 7. It can now be pre-orderd on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
DailyDot.com Lifestyle Editor E.J. Dickson called the book the “must-read” on the porn industry.
The book is described as a compelling first-hand narrative with a no-holds barred testimonial challenging existing stereotypes about sex and adult entertainment from the perspective of one of its foremost experts.
“I am so grateful to all the amazing people who have shown their support for my new book, which aims to bring a greater understanding of the adult industry and the people who work in it,” Dr. Chauntelle said.
Adult legend Nina Hartley also praised the book. “If you want to speak from understanding and not parrot media portrayals of porn, read this book.”
Perfomer Steven St. Croix added, “Dr. Chauntelle incessantly pokes holes in the doctrine that most of us have grown up with in America. Exposure shatters those notions."
XBIZ’s Dan Miller said, “Whether you’re already a fan of adult entertainment, curious about its inner workings, or just looking for an inspirational story of one woman’s endeavor to bring social justice to a marginalized part of society, Dr. Chauntelle’s ‘Exposure’ will grab you with its charm and win you over with its heart.”
Among those also impressed with the book are Kerry O. Ferris, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Sociology, Northern Illinois University, who said, “Many conventional university-types have spurned Dr. Chauntelle and her work merely because of the topic. Do not repeat this mistake. If people are doing it, then sociologists should be studying it, and you should be reading about it in ‘Exposure.’” Her comments will appear on the book’s back cover.
Ronald Weitzer, Ph.D., George Washington University called the book’s view of the adult industry “unique and fresh.” Others like Kathryn Hausbeck Korgan, Ph.D., author of “The State of Sex,” said readers will get a “better understanding of an often misunderstood industry and a fresh perspective (of porn).”
Likewise, Brian Alexander, author of "America Unzipped: The Search for Sex and Satisfaction," wrote, “Dr. Chauntelle has never failed to impress me with her insight and honesty about (the adult industry).” Corinne Reczek, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Departments of Sociology and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, hailed "Exposure’s" accessibility, calling the book a “sociologically sound study of the porn industry.”
The book can be pre-ordered through ChauntelleTibbals.com, which links to the book’s official store where visitors can also watch some of the adult movies discussed in the book via DVD or VOD.
“I believe this book will give people a greater understanding of porn and the industry as a whole,” Dr. Chauntelle said. “It’s too easy to demonize something that isn’t well understood, and I hope the book will bring about a new discussion about the adult industry and its place in popular culture.”
