DALLAS — Noted sociologist and adult industry expert Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals will moderate a panel on the portrayal of sex in Hollywood films at Exxxotica Expo in Dallas.
The panel will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
Exxxotica, set to run from August 7-9 at the convention center, is a consumer event dedicated to love and sex that features a number of adult novelty items, vendors, adult stars, seminars and workshops, plus experts on love, sex and adult entertainment.
Created by Dr. Tibbals, the session, entitled “Trainwreck: How Hollywood Portrays Sex,” will feature panelists Kendra Sunderland, the Oregon State University Library Girl and cam star; Sydney Leathers, a model turned adult star after media discovered her sexting relationship with U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner; Blacked.com contract performer Flash Brown; and noted BDSM performer Ashley Fires.
“I’m very pleased at the amazing panel we’ve brought together, which will examine the way Hollywood portrays sexuality,” said Dr. Chauntelle. “The new comedy ‘Trainwreck’ is a great starting point for the discussion, since it features Amy Schumer trying to define and understand modern sexuality, while working within the confines of a Hollywood script.”
The panel will examine how Hollywood appears to revere conventional sex while shaming the unconventional. According to the panel description, “Unconventional sex is also often shamed — online sex is still presented as ‘weird’ and characters that embrace what is deemed an overly sexual nature must change, a la ‘Trainwreck.’ Characters who crave sex in a monogamous relationship are applauded, while characters enjoying an abundance of sex outside of monogamy are often demonized or require saving.”
“Dr. Chauntelle created exactly the kind of seminar we pride ourselves on offering at Exxxotica expos around the country,” said J. Handy, Exxxotica organizer. “It’s fun, sexy, and thought provoking, and the superstar panelists will provide attendees with some great insight into the portrayal of sex in Hollywood and the adult industry.”
“I'm very excited to be featured on this panel,” said Kendra Sutherland. “It’s a great topic and I’m sure we will learn a lot about each other too.”
“I enjoy interacting with the fans and in all of my interviews,” Flash Brown notes. “I always speak frankly on what is real sex verses porn movie sex, so this seminar is definitely up my alley.”
Dr. Chauntelle’s appearance comes just after the July 7 publication of her new book titled “Exposure: A Sociologist Explores Sex, Society, and Adult Entertainment,” which reveals the business and personalities behind the porn industry, while debunking myths and misconceptions surrounding adult entertainment.
