Under the leadership of general manager Izzie, the new gay division will distribute titles from Blue Pictures, Blue Classics, Blue Gonzo Specialty DVD and the newly formed Hollywood Gone Blue label.
“We’ve always carried some gay titles,” Izzie told XBIZ. “But we wanted to form a gay division to both expand our offerings and keep it somewhat separate to better cater to retailers interested in gay.”
According to Izzie, each brand will offer something unique in the gay marketplace.
The Hollywood Blue line is about 100 titles purchased from the now defunct West Hollywood Film Works, Izzie said. Most of the titles, which feature guy-next-door-style content, have not been distributed on DVD.
The Blue Gonzo Specialty DVD line will focus on an array of niches, from bear to cowboy to twink.
Blue Classics represents Caballero’s in-house library of more than 500 titles, featuring such names as Jack Wrangler, Al Parker, Joe Gage and the Christy Twins. The company will release two to three remastered DVD titles from the Blue Classics label each month, Izzie said.
Caballero will produce and release its new titles under the Blue Pictures banner.
According to Izzie, Cabellero is well-positioned to launch a gay division because the company has spent more than $1 million to bring DVD replication, pressing and packaging in-house.
“We have three machines that are just amazing,” she said. “They run 24-hours a day, seven days a week, and that means that I’m able to handle really big orders very quickly, which makes a big difference.”
