NEW YORK — RentBoy.com is raising legal defense funds to fight prostitution charges, by selling the contents of its former Manhattan offices, which federal agents and the NYPD raided on August 25.
Law enforcement officials allege that the gay escort site illegally engaged in interstate commerce to violate local New York laws, during its nearly 20 years of operation. RentBoy.com chief executive Jeffrey Hurant and six others were arrested, some in their own homes, while the website and its bank accounts were frozen. Civil rights organizations and sex trade activists have protested the arrests as discriminatory against gays.
Items being sold on Craigslist.com include office furniture, desks, dual monitors, filing cabinets, books, magazines and miscellaneous software. Goods may be purchased here and donations can be made here.
