ATGLEN, Penn. — Innovative conception device The Semenette is featured in “Objects of Desire: A Showcase of Modern Erotic Products and the Creative Minds Behind Them.”
The hardcover coffee table book highlights more than 100 products that blur the line between tech, art, design, and function.
“It is an incredible honor to be chosen alongside so many other amazing pleasure products,” says Semenette CEO Stephanie Berman. “It has always been a goal of ours to put the romance and pleasure back into the ‘trying to conceive’ process, which can often feel clinical and cold. To have our product recognized in this capacity, as well as the technology and design of the product, is truly incredible.”
“Objects of Desire” is released through Schiffer Publishing, with text by Rita Catinella Orrell and design by Jason Scuderi. Product photography of The Semenette was provided by Isabel Dresler.
According to the book’s publisher, the world of erotic product design is revealed in this curated showcase of more than 100 beautifully crafted objects and the creative minds behind them.
“The latest adult toys, jewelry, and accessories from leading companies, as well as intriguing prototypes, are featured,” the publisher notes. “Each product, from high-tech gadgets to handcrafted pieces of art, is presented with concise descriptions in a minimal graphic format that emphasizes the flowing curves, materiality, and overall design of the products.”
The description continues, “Once taboo, sex toys are in the midst of a design revolution. With a foreword by Sarah Forbes, curator at New York City’s Museum of Sex, and in-depth interviews with leading sex bloggers, shop owners, and designers, the book will appeal to both fans of good design as well as ‘lovers’ of good design interested in acquiring these pieces for their own collections.”
The 272-page hardcover book, with 274 color and black and white photos, is slated for a March release.
“Objects of Desire” is currently available for pre-order through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books A Million, Indie Bound, and directly via Schiffer Books.
Berman explains that news of The Semenette experienced its first viral wave soon after its launch in early 2015, and media attention has not waned about the company’s innovative approach to at-home conception for the LGBT, FTM trans, and serodiscordant communities.
“Global media outlets have noted The Semenette’s impact on insemination options for couples trying to conceive outside of traditional IVF and ‘turkey baster’ routes,” Berman says. “The Semenette allows partners to mimic traditional intercourse through its proprietary inner tubing and pump system, re-creating the ejaculation process in the privacy of their own home.”
Berman herself is the first of The Semenette’s many success stories.
Recipient of Techie.com’s Editor’s Choice Lightning Bolt Award for Emerging Technology, and industry nominations for Couples Sex Toy of the Year, Specialty Pleasure Product of the Year, and New Product of the Year, The Semenette is made of premium medical-grade silicone, is non-toxic and phthalate-free.
