LONDON — World of Wonder and Dartmouth Films have announced the worldwide release of Blue Oyster Pictures’ documentary “Dressed As a Girl,” which was directed by Colin Rothbart and takes a look at drag performers on London’s East End.
The performers featured in “Dressed As a Girl” include Jonny Woo, John Sizzle, Holestar, Scottee, Amber, Pia and Ma Butcher. A spokesperson for “Dressed as a Girl” said, “The film is both a record of a fascinating style of hyper-costumed performance and an insight into the fragile personal lives of these artists.”
Following a well received work-in-progress slot at Sheffield Doc/Fest in 2014, Blue Oyster Pictures teamed up with executive producers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato of World Of Wonder, makers of the hit TV phenomenon "RuPaul’s Drag Race," and Christopher Hird of Dartmouth Films, makers of the award-winning documentary "Still The Enemy Within," to polish a 94-minute documentary.
“Dressed As a Girl” had its world premiere at London’s BFI Flare in 2015, followed by its UK release at the end of 2015 and enthusiastic reviews.
Little White Lies described “Dressed As a Girl” as “an authentic slice of queer London history.” Sight & Sound said, “’Dressed as a Girl’ matures startlingly as it progresses, skillfully picking out what's most fascinating about its central characters and their contrasting journeys through adulthood.”
“Dressed As a Girl” is now available on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon.
