BRIGHTON, U.K. — Friends and colleagues of British adult performer Carla Mai grieved after learning that the 27-year-old died today after a catastrophic fall in Brighton.
Mai, whose birth name was Aimee Spencer, lost her battle after spending days in the intensive care unit after the Brighton accident. Over the weekend, Mai was being kept alive on a ventilator, according to reports.
Details of the accident that left Mai with a severe head injury haven’t yet been revealed.
Described as a “fun loving feisty character,” Mai was a fetish performer who started her porn career in 2010 and had dozens of adult credits to her name. She also appeared on Babestation TV as one of the presenters and worked on promo work for boxing companies, along with glamour modeling. All the while, Mai boasted about her culinary skills as a Level 3 chef.
Many in the British porn biz expressed themselves on social media as shocked and saddened over the news of her passing today. U.K. adult star Rebecca More was one of them.
“The porn industry is not big here in the U.K. and a bit like family; some of us like each other and some of us not so much,” More said today. “I don’t know anyone that didn’t get [along] with Aimee. She was a very well-liked young lady and really funny with it.
“Sad news reached us all today and anyone who met Aimee will know how sad it is to know that she lost her life today. My heart and love is with her closest of friends and obviously her family. Rest in peace.”
Her family on Monday night released the following statement: "As has already been announced our beautiful, quirky, one-off daughter, sister and friend sadly passed away at 4:47 p.m. on Monday."
"If Facebook and Twitter comments are anything to go by her legacy, she leaves behind are memories for friends and family alike that were lucky enough to share in her fun and enthusiasm for life and the loyalty shown to those she cared about," her family said. "The family thank[s] you for your sympathy and condolences as it gives a little comfort at this hard time."
