SugarInstant Celebrates 15 Years

LOS ANGELES — SugarInstant has announced its celebration of 15 years in business.

According to the company, the site started out in 2001 as SugarDVD.com, renting adult DVDs by mail.

As the company grew it added new DVD sales, pay-per-view, and unlimited streaming, which is now available on Roku, PS4, Xbox, Google TV, mobile and more. This year it launched live shows, added exclusive VR content,and made its site completely responsive across all devices.

“We have always looked ahead and asked ourselves, ‘what will our customers want in the future?” explains SugarInstant CEO Jax Smith. “[We are] now focused on bringing content to life.”

SugarInstant began exploring opportunities in virtual reality in 2014, and after much experimentation, posted its first VR movie this year.

“It’s exciting to think about the possibilities VR could bring to adult,” says SugarInstant Business Development Manager Natasha.

The new exclusive VR content is compatible with Google Cardboard, Samsung VR and Oculus Rift, and is available for streaming at no additional cost through SugarInstant’s unlimited streaming service.

2003

  • Opens New York shipping center

2004

  • Launches SugarCash affiliate program, allowing affiliates to build their own online DVD rental stores

2006

  • Airs first TV commercials on MTV, VH1, BET, Spike, and E!
  • Opens Dallas shipping center
  • Actress and author Tori Spelling becomes the first celebrity to publicly endorse SugarDVD and is granted a lifetime membership to the site
  • Launches Pay-Per-View services

2007

  • Offers Kim Kardashian $2 million for distribution rights of her sex tape

2010

  • Wins European EroFame Award for Best Online Company

2011

  • Launches Roku unlimited streaming service

2014

  • Adds advanced recommendation engine to unlimited streaming service

2015

  • Rebrands to SugarInstant
  • Adds Live Shows to roster of services

2016

  • Adds exclusive VR content to unlimited streaming service
  • Makes site fully responsive on web and mobile devices
  • Is nominated for two XBIZ Awards, including the 2017 VOD Site of the Year.
