OAKLAND, Calif. — Nenna Joiner, owner of adult boutique Feelmore, attended and spoke at Senator Kamala Harris’ first town-hall meeting in Oakland.
“My heart was jumping out of my chest,” Joiner said. “How often do you get to have dialog with a Senator?"
Following the informal protocol of speakers, Joiner started with “My name is Nenna. I own Feelmore a retail store in Oakland.” There was a brief drop in audio that prompted the senator to ask Nenna to “plug” their business after not hearing the name.
“It is not often a sex store owner gets asked by a politician to publicize their business in church,” Joiner said, who at the town hall meeting replied “it’s a sex shop called Feelmore.”
“The entire building erupted in laughter,” Joiner said.
“It was an opportunity one could not pay for,” Joiner said. ”I was genuinely there to understand the information and influence change in my community and in so doing I was presented with the best plug ever!”
