Diabolic Owner Addresses Split With Anabolic

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Splitting with his longtime business partner, Anabolic owner Chris Alexander, has been a bittersweet breakup for Gregg Alan. The Diabolic owner looks back fondly on the time the two companies spent as “sister” studios but is even more excited about his company’s future as it establishes its own identity — apart from Anabolic.

Alan ran the sales department at Anabolic for the past 15 years. Diabolic was created as a separate company in 1998. Alan’s last day with Anabolic was May 25.

Addressing the split after what he called 15 fruitful years, Alan told XBIZ that he felt it was time to fully take control of the company and steer it in a different direction. Alan echoed Alexander’s comments and said that the split was amicable.

“There just came a time to focus solely on Diabolic, and I feel that time is now,” Alan said. “I want to be more intimately involved with the company. I’m looking forward to taking Diabolic in a different direction. I plan on doing some big things, and at the same time, I’m aware that the business is changing.”

Alan said that he’s starting another venture in the adult entertainment industry that is set to launch later this year. Leaving his post as Anabolic’s head of sales allows him more time to focus on this new project, he said.

To replace Alan, Alexander hired Dan M, formerly head salesman for Pleasure Productions, and most recently, Jules Jordan Video. Alan said he is working with Dan M to “get him up to speed on the way we do things.”

Alan recognized that branding and marketing the Diabolic name separately from Anabolic will be a big challenge. The first step was introducing new packaging, but Alan stressed that the changes will be more than cosmetic.

“We started new packaging to differentiate ourselves in the marketplace,” Alan said. “The first thing most consumers see is the boxcover, so we wanted to make sure it stood out. I wanted the packaging to better reflect what was inside the box. But, we will not be deviating from our bread and butter, which is producing great, hardcore adult entertainment with talented directors and top-notch production values.”

In keeping with the theme of turning over a new leaf, Melissa Lauren has joined Diabolic as the studio’s first female director. Lauren helmed “Girls Will Be Girls,” Anabolic’s first all-girl release. Alan praised Lauren, calling her a true pervert, and he plans to have her direct a couple more of the studio’s lines. Lauren also directed the latest volume for Diabolic’s “Unnatural Sex” series.

“Girls Will Be Girls” stars Sativa Rose, Jenna Haze, Eva Angelina, Alektra Blue, Kaiya Lynn, Jenna Presley, Shyla Stylez, Annette Schwarz, Gianna Lynn and Lorelei Lee.

Additionally, Alan plans to introduce new lines in the coming months. Diabolic also released its first MILF movie this month, “The MILF Next Door.”

“Diabolic is one of those companies that’s always maintained a consistent level of sales,” Alan said. “This next step is a big challenge, but one that I’m confident we’re ready for.”
