New Eros Association Study Says Aussie Porn Is Female-Led, Queer

AUSTRALIA — Women and members of the LGBTIQ community are major players in the Australian adult industry, according to a recent industry survey conducted by The Eros Association.

The survey of 29 producers, directors and performers in the Australian adult media industry found that 79 percent of producers are women and 50 percent of all survey participants identified as LGBTIQ.

“Adult media is a small industry in Australia, but is widely recognized overseas as presenting a unique perspective on erotica,” said Rachel Payne, general manager of The Eros Association. “Australian producers such as Feck and Light Southern have received widespread acclaim overseas for their fresh take on sexuality”.

The survey also noted the interdisciplinary nature of adult media production, with a third of participants switching between performer, producer and directing responsibilities.

Eros’ newly developed Adult Media Production Standards outline the basic rights of performers on an a porn set including expectations, rights, amenities and payment.

“We know most of these standards are already being met by major players in the industry,” Payne added, “but there is a need to formalize production standards to ensure new performers understand their rights."

The Australian pornography industry currently sits in a legal grey area in many States and Territories, with classification laws heavily restricting the production, sale and distribution of sexually explicit material, a representative reported.
