Cybersocket Opens Web Awards Nominations

LOS ANGELES — Cybersocket has opened the nominations site for its 8th annual Web Awards, which honor GLBT websites in both "Surfer's Choice" categories and "Industry Choice" categories. The awards will be given out Oct. 25.

"Our awards process has been criticized as being more like a popularity contest," Cybersocket President Morgan Sommer told XBIZ. "I don't have any issue with that because it is a popularity contest. What we are looking for is what the surfers think are the best websites. And the same thing when it comes to the industry website process. ... It's not necessarily what is the very best on subjective criteria."

"This makes our process different. It's not a private panel of judges analyzing it," he said. "We open it up."

The Surfer's Choice nomination site is here and the Industry Choice nomination site for webmasters is here. Nominations voting ends July 25. Voting for the awards takes place Aug. 1 – Sept. 20.

Cybersocket products include Cybersocket magazine, the largest freely distributed gay print magazine in the U.S., and Cybersocket.com, a web portal that provides comprehensive information and resources targeted to gay and lesbian communities.
