Mr. Marcus' New Company Daddy Inc. Plans to Mix Adult, Mainstream

LOS ANGELES — Award-winning performer and director Mr. Marcus has started a new business venture, Daddy Inc., which he intends to be a lifestyle brand, bringing the worlds of adult, mainstream and hip-hop culture together.

An apparel line featuring its logo already has started with T-shirts. Future plans include plot-driven videos, sex toys, an online magazine and the development of explicit and non-explicit sections for the MrMarcus.com website.

"I want it to become the equivalent of what Hustler and Playboy mean to the adult industry," Marcus told XBIZ. "It becomes a social thing. When you see somebody wearing a Hustler T-shirt, you know where that came from. With Playboy, you get the prestige. The magazine is well-written, appeals to the intellect, but it also says 'We appreciate beautiful women.' I expect Daddy Inc. to be the equivalent to that in the new millennium. It's a state of mind."

Marcus said that he called the company Daddy Inc. after people from across the adult industry came to him for advice. "I felt like a father figure," he said. "I have been in this industry for a long time, and I feel like I've been influential. I'm a person who started in the trenches and worked his way up the ranks. I want to build a company that's not just sex. I'm a daddy myself. It's Daddy Inc. for a reason."

Marcus also is starting a non-profit organization, DaddyInc.org, which will promote HIV prevention and sex information.

"At the end of the day, you want to go to sleep with a clear conscience," Marcus said. "I found myself in the middle of the last HIV outbreak, talking to young black men, telling them to go get tested if you're going to be sexually active. Coming from a porn star, that resonates more."

Daddy Inc. has scheduled a kickoff party on June 17, Father's Day, at Nacional, located at 1645 Wilcox Ave., Hollywood, Calif., starting at 9:30 p.m. Members of the adult industry and mainstream media are invited. Sponsorships are available. To RSVP, contact daddy@hollywoodafterdark.com.
