LOS ANGELES — Wired magazine spotlights Realbotix’s latest creation, Henry, in its June issue.
In the article “Firmware Update: Sex Robots Are Coming,” author Erin Griffith meets the first AI-enhanced male sexbot at the Realbotix headquarters in San Marcos, Calif., and explores the possibility of sex dolls appealing to women.
Realbotix founder Matt McMullen emphasizes the fact that aside from sex, dolls are often used for companionship, mostly by men. With the additional layer of companionship of AI technology, McMullen says he believes Henry would appeal to women and finally carve a niche in the predominately male market.
Realbotix reports that fewer than 10 percent of the company’s 300 to 400 orders a year go to women or couples. The reason likely being that in addition to their price, sex dolls weigh as much as 90 pounds.
According to Wired, Henry will be available for purchase next year for about $12,000 and buyers will have a choice of silicone penis inserts.
