LAS VEGAS — The Erotic Heritage Museum has announced it will be hosting Lanita Shera’s one-woman show, “Sugar Brown: Burlesque Bad & Bougie Comedy,” for a limited-run fall residency.
The interactive show, which blends eroticism and comedy for a light-hearted yet titillating look at sensuality, submission, and empowerment, will start at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings inside the Jewel Box Theatre.
“We are so thrilled to have the lovely Lanita Shera present her show at the EHM,” says a Museum spokesperson. “We had the pleasure of having her perform ‘Sugar Brown’ for two weekends here in August, and it’s the perfect kind of show for our venue — fun, educational, and entertaining. We are also always pleased to champion artists of color, and are honored to have Ms. Shera choose our theatre to deliver her message to her Vegas audience each night between tour dates.”
In “Sugar Brown,” the ebony Sugar (played by Shera) shares the experience of her first time becoming a submissive via disclosing her diaries to her audience. In this R-rated and highly interactive show, Sugar shares her stories not just through hilarious comedy, but also through burlesque: the sensual art form incorporating dance, risqué costumes, and frank, friendly lustiness, elegantly celebrating a side of life rarely discussed in public.
“Sugar Brown” is one of several alter-egos of Shera, who uses the medium of her original productions to explore different facets of sexuality. Hailing from Atlanta and Chicago, where she has entertained sold-out houses eager to engage and learn from her shows, she now makes her home in Sin City while touring “Sugar Brown” and her other productions across the country.
