Dan Parisi said he wanted to ensure that children don’t inadvertently stumble into one of the Internet’s seedier neighborhoods.
Parisi told XBiz last month he was getting out of the pornography business and selling the whitehouse.com name and more than 100 derivations.
The adult-website operator said Monday the sale of whitehouse.com has generated at least 70 offers.
Parisi said he was hopeful to complete the sale within two weeks for at least $2 million.
Parisi handed over whitehousekids.com to the General Services Administration, saying he originally registered it for himself because “we didn’t want somebody to start trouble with it.”
He was worried that his young son’s classmates might taunt him about the family’s website business when he starts kindergarten in the fall, the New York City webmaster said. Parisi never published content on the kids web site.
In a release, U.S. officials said it “welcomes donations that make it possible for U.S. citizens to easily connect with their government websites.”
The site’s domain name is renewable April 2005, according to Network Solutions.
