LOS ANGELES — Sex Workers Outreach Project Los Angeles (SWOP-LA) has set a “Monday Moment” soiree for Monday, April 8 at Akbar in Silver Lake.
The event is intended to train a spotlight on the Black Sex Workers Collective; performance artist Akynos will be a featured guest. “We have the incredible Akynos visiting and it's the perfect time to come together and show her how Los Angeles gets down,” said SWOP-LA’s Bella Bathory. “Slip on something sexy or something comfy. Come out, watch the ‘Beast of Burlesque’ herself perform and spend the evening learning more about the Black Sex Worker Collective.”
Local performers and “vibe curation” by Paisley and Moonflower are also on the menu.
“I challenge all who attend to not leave the event without making at least three new friends. Community is everything,” said Bathory. “The night is all about soaking up the excellence of our community, networking and building solidarity.”
SWOP-LA’s guidelines for the event include the following:
- Sex workers are prioritized in the space; allies are welcome.
- Trans/homo/fatphobia, racism and abelist remarks will not be tolerated.
- Treat everyone with respect.
- If you need a vibe, check come grab a SWOP-LA member.
- Tip your bartenders well.
- Have fun!
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the event runs until midnight. Click here for ticketing details. The ticket price covers a donation to the performers and DJ.
