ESPLER Hosts Sex Worker Rights Rally at California Democratic Party Convention

SAN FRANCISCO — Erotic Service Provider Legal Education and Research Project (ESPLER) has announced that it will be hosting a rally outside the Democratic Convention on June 1 to advocate for sex workers’ rights.

In honor of International Whores Day, ESPLER plans to greet attendees of the 2019 California Democratic Party State Convention and insist that a new “Decriminalize Sex Work” resolution be added to the party’s platform. So far, nearly fifty state delegates have already endorsed the resolution.

“We are demanding that the Democratic Party, and presidential candidates like Kamala Harris, make the decriminalization of sex work a priority,” stated Kristen Di Angelio of Sacramento’s Sex Worker Outreach Project. “The criminalization of prostitution, including the criminalization of clients, creates exploitive and unsafe work conditions which disproportionately target people of color, LGBT, homeless youth and victims of sex trafficking.”

Given that the majority of the 2020 Presidential candidates, including all Senators and Representatives, supported FOSTA/SESTA, the presence of sex workers at the upcoming California Democratic Convention is especially pertinent.

“We will let the candidates know that we expect them to repeal FOSTA,” said Maxine Doogan of ESPLER. “As the national momentum grows for inclusion of our voices, decriminalization is within our grasp.”

The Democratic Decriminalization Rally will be held at Moscone Center on the corner of 3rd and Howard from 12-3 p.m. (PDT)

For more information, contact Maxine Doogan at (415) 265-3302 or email info@esplerpl.org.
