DEA Agent Names Adult Performer Carolina Cortez in Mac Miller's OD Probe

LOS ANGELES — The DEA agent investigating the overdose death of rapper Mac Miller a year ago alleged in an affidavit filed last Friday that adult performer Carolina Cortez was involved in providing drugs to the musician.

The affidavit surfaced today after the arrest of Cameron James Pettit, a Hollywood Hills resident who is accused of having sold Miller pills laced with a lethal dose of fentanyl. Pettit was arrested this morning.

Federal prosecutors charged Pettit, 28, in connection with the death of the acclaimed rapper and producer. They allege he provided Miller with oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl, and also with cocaine and Xanax, two days before his overdose.

NBC News reported today that “investigators, who served search warrants at multiple locations, recovered a plastic bag containing pills allegedly supplied by a prostitute and a madam.”

Later today the New York Times reported that “the complaint offers a window into Mr. Miller’s final days. On Tuesday, Sept. 4 he texted Mr. Pettit requesting drugs. When he did not respond right away, Mr. Miller texted a madam from whom he had previously procured drugs, according to the complaint, which noted that she sent a sex worker to his residence in Studio City, Calif.”

The Times reports that, after Pettit texted back, “early on Sept. 5, both parties provided Mr. Miller with blue pills that appeared to be oxycodone, among other drugs.

In his affidavit justifying the search warrants, DEA agent Tommy S. Fung identifies Pettit and also Mia Pascal Johansson and Karla Amador (aka Carla) as the three people involved in providing drugs to Miller in the days leading to his overdose.

Based on analysis of their social media and tattoo identification, Agent Fung alleges that the performer known as Carolina Cortez — whom he describes as “an adult film actress” — and Karla Amador are the same person.

XBIZ contacted Randy Quintana of Society 15, the boutique talent agency which represents Cortez. “We as an agency stand by people with the idea that people are innocent until proven guilty,” said Quintana. “Our heart goes out to Mac Miller’s family and we send love, light and healing. It’s a terrible thing they’re going through.”

Society 15 owner Nina Elle added that she “also wants to stand by anybody, whether on our roster or not, and assume they are innocent until proven otherwise.”

Mac Miller died September 7, 2018 in Studio City, California. He was 26 years old. The Los Angeles coroner’s report, released last November, stated that the cause of death was an accidental overdose of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol.
