LOS ANGELES — The Free Speech Coalition will host an exclusive leadership conference coinciding with the 2020 XBIZ Show in Los Angeles, where it will bring in speakers from outside of the industry to provide fresh insights on issues affecting those within it.
This year, the FSC Leadership Conference will address the new AB5 independent contractor law, the California Consumer Privacy Act and diversity in the workplace.
“We are a unique industry, but some of the issues impacting us now are impacting all industries, not only in California but across the nation,” FSC Executive Director Michelle L. LeBlanc said. “This year, we’ve put together a strong slate of experts who can help guide us through the most pressing issues we are facing.”
The FSC Leadership Conference will take place Thursday, January 16 at noon and last until 4 p.m.
Topics will include “Diversity Is Good for Business,” where Big Answers CEO Brickson Diamond will discuss the positive financial and societal gains from increased diversity both behind the camera and in front of it in the mainstream entertainment industry.
Next, “Is Everyone an Employee Now? Complying with California’s AB5” offers a moderated conversation around actionable advice for businesses and performers concerned about AB 5 and will clarify who is classified as a contractor or an employee, and how to protect yourself when it comes to payments, taxes, insurance and other aspects of the law.
Finally, “Does the CCPA Impact Your Business? Spoiler Alert: Yes,” will detail how businesses that collect personal information from consumers are impacted by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), which created new consumer rights relating to the access to, deletion of, and sharing of personal information. A privacy expert will guide attendees through CCPA compliance and wrap up this trilogy of timely sessions and prepare leadership-level businesses for 2020 and beyond.
