Activist, Retired Performer Macanao Torres Passes Away

MURCIA, Spain — Macanao Torres, a retired adult performer for gay fetish studios and a PrEP activist, passed away late last month.

Torres apparently took his own life, jumping from the roof of his apartment block in Murcia, Spain on December 29, reports Shangay.com.

"A tragic and unexpected end for a 35-year-old Murcia who managed to become one of the most recognizable and atypical figures in the homeland gay porn industry," wrote Shangay's Pablo Carrasco de Juanas.

He filmed for Butch Dixon, Dark Alley Media, Jalifstudio and Treasure Island Media, among others.

Torres had a ten-year adult career, from 2006 to 2016, when he stopped performing, saying at the time that he was "very satisfied" with his career and that "I will never stop being 'Macanao Torres,' a character I am very proud of."

Months later, he told Shangay that the reason he retired was because he'd been diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma, with a life expectancy of ten years.

Torres, nevertheless, continued with his activism. According to a story in Pink News, "Torres actively campaigned for better transparency from studios" regarding their performers and STI/HIV testing.

Hardkinks.com said this in a tweet on December 30: "The first time I took pictures of a model was you. The first time I shot a scene was with you. Unforgettable moments that sadly will not be repeated. Thanks for everything. RIP Macanao."
