LONDON — The Pleasuredrome spa and sauna for gay and bi men, notable for being the only gay venue in the U.K. that never closes, has gone dark in response to recommendations from the U.K. government that all pubs, nightclubs, theaters and similar venues close to stem the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus.
The gay-owned spa attracts over 15,000 men every month from London and tourists from across the world.
"In the interest of the health and well-being of our much-valued guests, as well as the wonderful staff, we have decided to temporarily close until further notice," a rep explained.
While the venue is shuttered, owners plan to use the time to conduct "maintenance and cosmetic improvements," the rep explained, "providing work for our core staff and so to ensure Pleasuredrome is nice and shiny when [customers] return. We will closely monitor advice from the government and act accordingly to ensure public health and safety. In the meantime, follow us on social media for the latest news and updates as we continue to post and keep you entertained during these trying times."
