Porn.com Throttles Streaming Quality in Europe to Mitigate Surge

LOS ANGELES — Porn.com has joined streaming brands such as Netflix and YouTube by throttling its streaming quality across Europe and in other key regions most affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

Experts have warned of overtaxing bandwidth usage as increasing numbers of people follow "stay at home" measures and rely on the internet for work and entertainment.

“We noticed a significant increase in daytime traffic from many European nations and key regions in North America,” said a company rep. “To maintain stability for audiences and to anticipate a growing need, we’ve strategically reduced E.U. traffic and other areas to standard definition.”

“Our goal is to greatly reduce our digital footprint over the coming days and weeks so that important work and timely communication isn’t compromised,” the rep added. “Our efforts already seem to be making a difference in Germany and France in particular.”

The new bitrate limitations on streaming content have already gone into effect at Porn.com and will stay in place until further notice.

In the meantime, Porn.com’s overall customer service will not be disrupted due to COVID-19 as staff and administrators work remotely.
