TORONTO — Clip star Gwen Adora spoke to Vice Canada's Motherboard about running an independent content creation business during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The article, titled “Making Money on OnlyFans Is a Lot Harder Than You Think,” by Anya Zoledziowski, examines the sudden appetite for online adult content from an entertainment-starved audience and new performers who are out of work.
Adora acknowledges frustration over the notion that being a content creator is easy.
"The adult industry works harder than any other — not just to get paid — but in our hustle to survive when the internet and society oppress us," she says. "It's disheartening to log in to social media and see locals, and mainstream influencers, like James Charles, joking about entering into our industry because they’re bored or need to make quick cash. Camming or running an OnlyFans aren’t fun activities we play around with — these are our jobs and careers."
Adora wants new content creators, and consumers, to understand and appreciate the work involved.
"I'm privileged because I work fully online," she notes.
