LOS ANGELES — The "Shameless Sex" podcast, hosted by April Lampert and Amy Baldwin, are pivoting from their usual format this week to focus on the mental health and wellness of their listeners under lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are trying something new over here at 'Shameless Sex.' We are inviting people to share what they are going through during social isolation, with the understanding that a lot of folks are feeling really alone right now," Lampert explained. “Not just the basic ‘I’m fine’ or ‘This is hard, but it’s okay.' We really want to know how people are doing.”
Although the hosts typically cannot personally reply to all of their messages, they decided to offer their forum "and loving support," said Lampert, to their audience.
"Many are sharing what they are really feeling during isolation: aloneness, stress, fear, relationship struggles, parenting challenges. It has been so beautiful to see the impact that a simple connection can make," she said. "Even though we’ve never met these people, we are still connecting with one another in a much-needed way."
Baldwin affirmed the importance of connecting, virtually, while still following social distancing guidelines.
"We can continue to help people feel supported and cared for from afar," she said, "and we encourage everyone else to do the same. So we are encouraging other to start asking your clients, customers, friends and family: 'But really, how are you?'"
