AUSTIN — Fleshlight Marketing Director Daniel Harvell will compete in the fourth annual "Unite the Fight" gala scheduled for October 24 at the Hilton Austin.
The all-ages event pairs eight amateur drag performers with eight professional Austin-area drag queens to raise money to benefit the Equality Alliance, which supports organizations such as OutYouth, the Kind Clinic and the Transgender Education Network of Texas. Contestants were announced on Tuesday, which is also when tickets went on sale.
“Just when I thought this year couldn’t get any crazier, I’m now shopping for wigs, heels and dresses,” Harvell said. “I think drag is an amazing expression of art and creativity, but this is way out of my comfort zone. But that’s part of the reason I want to do it. The other and bigger part is that I want to help make a difference in the LGBT community. We’ve made strides toward equality, but we can’t stop now.”
The event features a silent auction, a plated dinner and live entertainment by the amateur drag contestants. Previous galas have also featured celebrity hosts such as Shangela from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and HBO’s “We’re Here.”
Tickets for the event can be purchased here for 25 percent off until June 23; or by donating to the Equality Alliance here; or by buying a Mercedes-Benz raffle ticket here.
