Le Wand Shares Findings of Latest 'Ask Eva' Survey

NEW YORK — For the September edition of Le Wand’s monthly “Ask Eva” surveys, respondents shared their experiences of sex education in school.

Le Wand’s #AskEva surveys are exploratory and represent the experiences of the company’s followers — although the company says they will hopefully lead to future scientific investigations with larger sample sizes.

Of the 75 individuals who completed the survey, 84 percent were women, 6.7 percent were men, 6.7 percent were non-binary and 2.3 percent were non-binary women. Eight percent of the same identified as transgender.

Most of the sample received their sex-ed in the U.S. (42.4 percent) or Canada (31.5 percent). The survey’s participants were international — with responses from Australia, France, Sweden, Italy, the U.K., Ireland, Netherlands, India, Portugal, St. Vincent and Curaçao.

“We would also hope that sex education improves over time — though, not according to one participant, who shared that 'I was taught that masturbation was unhealthy… this was 2014,'"the company said.

In the survey, respondents also shared what kind of sex-ed they wished they would have received.

“Many wished that their sex-ed had included sexual orientation and information on queer sexuality and relationships,” the company said. “Consent and sexual communication were also emphasized. One participant stated, ‘consent and just being taught there is no shame in exploring sex and pleasure with consent.’”

The survey’s respondents also said they wished they would have received non-shameful information on vulvar anatomy, sexual communication and, in some cases, any sex education at all.
