Adult-Friendly Video Dating App 'RareBirdCalls' Enters Beta Phase

LOS ANGELES — Nascent video dating app RareBirdCalls, described as an adult-friendly, end-to-end encrypted, fully private video dating platform, has entered its beta phase and will be inviting early adopters to test its system.

"Founded by an industry professional, and supported by a sophisticated team, including encryption specialists, dedicated to protecting every online sex worker’s right to earn a living without shame or fear of account deletion, RareBirdCalls provides users the freedom to finally have private video chats without worry," noted a rep.

Founder and sex industry veteran The Rare Bird praised the toolbox offered by the platform.

“You just want to run your business during uncertain times, but sometimes it seems like you’re under attack from every direction,” they said. "That’s why we’re creating tools to increase your sense of control, your stability in the world and your feeling of dignity. We’re starting with a telecommunications platform, created specifically for online sex workers. We believe every sex worker deserves digital intimate autonomy."

The rep described sex workers who have been forced to rethink how to provide services during pandemic and have adopted online platforms, often for the first time.

"Why is it that so many companies are deplatforming sex workers?” writes The Whorticulturalist, resident writer for RareBirdCalls. "Broadly speaking, in the past few years, there’s been a recent upsurge in cultural anxieties around sex, sexual commerce, and sexual media, and that has in turn influenced policies that exist primarily to censor and break up adult industry communities and markets. This type of digital gentrification and 'whorephobia' have made it harder and harder for people in the adult industry to work safely and freely, often finding themselves censoring their own content so much that it is bleached of all meaningful intention or feeling."

Whereas many companies use restrictive terms of service pages, or constantly updated rules to restrict and ban adult workers," she added, "RareBirdCalls was built by a sex worker, for fellow sex workers, and prioritizes providing a reliable tool that helps people in the adult industry work safely and with job confidence."
