LOS ANGELES — April Flores has just published an essay in a book collection titled, “We Too: Essays on Sex Work and Survival" and will take part in a group reading event today to promote it.
“We Too” was published by the Feminist Press at CUNY, and is edited by Natalie West and Tina Horn, and other its contributors include Sonya Aragon, Vanessa Carlisle, Milcah Halili and Yin Q. The book is also a collaborative collection of narrative essays from sex workers, in which they discuss lives and their work.
To help promote the book, Flores will be joined by other contributors and editors as they share their stories for a livestreamed event today at 6:30 p.m. (PST) at Skylight Books in Los Angeles.
"Our culture has a perpetual fascination with sex work and workers. Oftentimes, media is created about us, but the more insightful and meaningful work is created by us. These are our stories shared in our own words. It is a thrill and honor to have my essay included in 'We Too,' alongside so many people I respect and admire,” Flores said. “As a lifelong L.A. resident, it's a dream come true to be part of an event at the iconic Skylight Books."
