AUSTIN — Women and couples erotica and lifestyle brand afterglow has announced a monthlong Instagram campaign, in partnership with the U.K.-based Not Your Porn advocacy group.
The campaign will highlight one new themed message a week — “Pay For Your Porn,” “Sex Work Is Work,” “My Consent is Mandatory,” “My Body, My Consent” and “IBSA (Image-Based Sexual Abuse).”
An afterglow rep stated that the goal is to “open up the conversation about persistent societal issues that negatively impact people’s default perception of sex and sexuality.”
Lilly Sparks, CEO and founder of afterglow said, “Our goal is to encourage industry professionals, allies and advocates to do more in raising public awareness about cultivating a healthy relationship with sex, sex work and personal sexual empowerment, as well as supporting and promoting ethical porn."
Sparks told XBIZ that her brand “is excited to work with organizations that we share common beliefs with.”
“Traditionally, the conversations around image-based sexual abuse have been dominated by anti-porn organizations focused on trafficking narratives,” she explained. “Not Your Porn and afterglow are bringing a different approach to ensure the long-term stability of sex work. Working together educates those outside traditional adult channels. Partnership is central to afterglow as is building bridges to create change around paying for your porn and knowing the difference between porn and image-based sexual abuse.”
The platform is also publishing the article “Porn Literacy: How to Watch Porn Safely” to complement the social campaign and to “highlight the finer points of sexual expression in the real world versus onscreen performances, ethical production and paying for porn,” the rep added.
