LOS ANGELES — X3 Expo organizers have announced legendary hip-hop artist Too $hort as the first of two featured music acts who will be performing at the grand-opening of the “ultimate fan expo,” in January.
Too $hort will appear on stage at the world-famous Hollywood Palladium to close the first night of X3 Expo on Friday, Jan. 7.
The Oakland veteran is a pioneering figure in the West Coast rap scene, whose act includes a multitude of crowd-pleasing hits spanning several decades.
Currently, Too $hort is a crucial part of the supergroup Mt. Westmore, alongside fellow California rap royalty members Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and E-40.
"I’m ready to hit the grand X3 stage and have a great time with everyone," Too $hort told XBIZ. "I want to see the whole crowd let loose and have a blast. Gonna hit ‘em with the classics as well as my new records like 'Nasty Dance' and 'Ain’t Gone Do It'!"
X3 Expo attendees should expect an evening of legit West Coast bangers and legendary tracks like “Blow The Whistle” and “Getting It,” and a dive through a bottomless catalog of hits and famous collaborations.
A West Coast Hip-Hop Legend
“Too $hort is a hip-hop legend, a foundational West Coast artist, a titan of Bay Area rap, and — more than anything else — a survivor,” wrote respected hip-hop journalist David Ma for Okay Player. “This funny and funky rapper chronicled the street life of Oakland and beyond beginning in the cassette era, and will soon stream an album with supergroup Mt. Westmore alongside heavyweight peers.”
Too $hort, Ma noted, has “remained relevant for decades by subtly switching up his sound to reflect the times, while mostly rapping about a few distinct subjects, and making hits with a variety of collaborators. Listening to Too $hort rap is educational. Though primarily known for his Blaxploitation-inspired observations of the streets over slow rolling bass lines, a close listening of his catalog reveals several more layers.”
Also, Too $hort “invented the laid-back sex styles that Y.G and Tyga ran with,” Los Angeles hip hop expert Jeff Weiss wrote about the legendary rapper.
