ROME — Rocco Siffredi published a video yesterday on social media announcing his candidacy for president of Italy.
“I’ve decided to become a candidate for new president of the Italian Republic,” Siffredi said as he gazed into the camera, emphasizing his words with a raised index finger, in a vertical video shared through his official Instagram account.
“I will be your candidate,” continued the global adult superstar and household name in his native country. “For a hard Italy. For an Italy that can go back to the way things were. Guys, you know it: to make things fun, who better than me?”
Siffredi, surrounded by cheering starlets and his on-set collaborators, encouraged his supporters to share the video on social media and to spread the word about the “Rocco Presidente” campaign.
Through a statement, Siffredi added that he is “pleased to announce that finally politics are no longer that boring and sad thing we were used to.”
“After all,” he continued, “it is well known that I have done more good for the country than all politics put together.”
It is unclear at this point if Siffredi intends to file formal paperwork to officially enter the race for 13th president of the Italian Republic.
In 2013, Siffredi was also the subject of a grassroots campaign for the Italian presidency. That run resulted in a meme, popular in the Mediterranean nation, of the president of the Camera dei Diputati — Italy’s House of Representatives analog — picking up one a ballot and reading “Rocco Siffredi” in earnest, while her colleagues break out in laughter.
