LOS ANGELES — Sex educator Anne Hodder-Shipp has received the 2022 "Professional Standard of Excellence Award" from the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).
A rep noted the honor recognizes her extensive work to represent and advance the field of human sexuality through sex-ed, most notably with Everyone Deserves Sex Ed (EDSE), an organization that serves teens and parents, adults and professionals in need of information about human sexuality.
Recipients of the award are recognized by their peers as "a competent and accomplished colleague, an expert in their field and an exemplary bearer of the standards of professional and personal ethics as well as the standard of excellence in achievement," the rep said.
Hodder-Shipp is the founder and lead educator at EDSE, which offers workshops, training and private education designed to provide "an empowered and expansive perspective on sexuality topics," noted the rep. "From queer and transgender teens in treatment to healthcare professionals in hospitals, Anne works to provide the kind of sex-ed support that many of us wished we’d had in school."
Popular offerings include a 35-hour sex educator certification, a unique "Sexual Attitude Reassessment" co-facilitated with Dr. Bianca Laureano of Ante Up! and a 90-minute "Sex-Ed Crash Course."
“It is an honor to be named and recognized by AASECT and my colleagues with the 'Professional Standard of Excellence' award," Hodder-Shipp said. “My goal is to offer the sex-ed that was missing from our education experiences, whether it be to actual high schoolers or professionals and care providers working in health and wellness fields. And by teaching the teachers, I can help make this information even more widely available while collaborating with professionals I love and admire. I’ve witnessed the life-changing impact of having access to accurate, empowered and expansive sex education and I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
