LOS ANGELES — Maitland Ward's forthcoming memoir, titled "Rated X: How Porn Liberated Me from Hollywood," has received a glowing, starred notice from Kirkus Reviews.
A starred review is "a rare commendation from the literary tastemaker," noted a rep, as only books deemed to be of "exceptional merit" — fewer than 10% of those reviewed — receive one.
Kirkus describes “Rated X” as “an exceptional narrative that champions the discovery of freedom in sexuality,” praises Ward as “clear and engaging in her frank discussions of sex and womanhood” and calls her “generous and insightful in her reflections on finding a larger sense of self, as well as finding true friends in an often superficial industry.”
The book is set for publication on Sept. 6 from Simon & Schuster's Atria Books imprint.
“It's an honor and a privilege to be recognized by Kirkus,” said Ward. “It is a huge deal in the literary community to receive a star and I’m shocked that they are recognizing me. I can’t wait for fans to finally get their hands on the book, and genuinely hope they enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. It was truly a labor of love.”
