Japanese JAV Site R18.com to Shut Down

TOKYO — Japanese JAV site R18.com has announced through its homepage that it will cease operations on Jan. 31, 2023.

R18.com will stop selling content on Oct. 24. Users will only be able to access their already-purchased content until Jan. 31, when the site will be taken down.

R18.com warned users, “It is possible that the points refund application and website may close before the due date due to unexpected reasons.”

The site is urging users seeking a refund for unused points to request it via this form.

“We are proud of the community that rallied around R18.com and we know many of you will be sad to see it go,” the company said through a statement. “All the best from the R18.com team, and may you always find what you are looking for. We'll miss it dearly.”

Based in Japan, R18.com offers Japanese adult content for English-speaking audiences. The site boasted “200,000 Japanese movies, many available for the first time to English-speaking customers. More than 2,000 new movies are added to our growing library every month from the top production companies in Japan.”
