LOS ANGELES — Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop brand issued a holiday gift catalog this week that includes a $28,500 sex chair designed for luxury retailer Kiki de Montparnasse.
Kiki de Montparnasse’s Tufted Boudoir Chaise was created by master furniture designer Mark Brazier.
The chaise is crafted from brass and tufted black leather and, according to a Goop rep, is “a foundation for fantasy.”
The curves of the chair “mimic the contours of the body — and it’s decked out with stirrups and restraints.”
Goop recommends the Tufted Boudoir Chaise to be displayed “in your bedroom, living room, dungeon, what have you.”
Paltrow’s company has a sense of humor about public perception of the brand as peddlers of extravagant, high price-point bourgeois accoutrements. Kiki de Montparnasse’s Tufted Boudoir Chaise was included by Goop as part of the site’s official “Ridiculous but Awesome Gift Guide.”
The guide also includes other "ridiculous but awesome" gifts such as a $286,595 exotic adventure in New Zealand and a bar of gold (price TBD), which "is also a paperweight."
Kiki de Montparnasse describes its line, which started off in 2005 as a luxe lingerie label, as “teetering on the edge of playful and provocative and celebrating the female form with a collection of indulgent intimates. “
The brand was named after the Parisian model and actress known as the Queen of Montparnasse, who epitomized take-charge sexuality and playful decadence in the 1920s.
