FSC to Examine How 'Derisking' in Banking Affects Adult Industry

LOS ANGELES — The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) is hosting a webinar on derisking in the financial services industry, titled "Derisking: Examining Its Impact on the Adult Industry's Access to Banking," on April 24 at 11 a.m. (PDT).

Panelists for the webinar include Alison Boden, Executive Director, Free Speech Coalition; Allie Eve Knox, Adult performer and business owner; Jessica Goedtel, Financial Advisor, Pavilion Financial; Aaron Kahler, Anti-Human Trafficking Intelligence Initiative; and Pierre Whatley, Principal, FS Vector. FSC's Mike Stabile will moderate.

FSC released the following statement about the webinar:

Free Speech Coalition (FSC), the trade and advocacy organization for adult businesses and workers, will host a special briefing on the impact of derisking practices across the financial services industry. Panelists will address the ways in which derisking impacts their ability to build and operate businesses, earn income and survive in a world increasingly dominated by digital transactions. This webinar is intended for adult industry members, Congressional staff, regulators, financial services professionals, and other stakeholders.

The webinar comes on the one year anniversary of the FSC’s groundbreaking report, “Financial Discrimination and the Adult Industry,” which detailed, for the first time, the extent of financial discrimination affecting adult related businesses and workers. More than 60% of adult workers have lost a bank account or financial tool due to their association with the industry, 40% in the past year alone. 

Since the release of the report, FSC has met with over forty Congressional offices, as well as regulators, compliance officers and anti-trafficking organizations. National and international outlets have covered the fight to stop financial discrimination, including the New York Times, Forbes, Wired, Boston Globe, The Street, Slate and hundreds of other publications.

“Over the past year, we’ve examined both the problem and potential cures,” says Alison Boden, Executive Director of Free Speech Coalition. “This panel will allow us to engage the issue with a broader audience, present possible solutions and answer questions. We look forward to this incredibly important discussion.”
