MADRID — Paysite CumLouder has launched Spain’s first law-compliant age verification system.
The system uses digital identity wallets developed by the cybersecurity and digital identity company Gataca.
“Gataca’s solution is currently the only one approved by the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) to start processing data for age verification,” said a rep. “The identity wallets allow users to verify their age securely without the need to share personal data with the website — not even their date of birth. This guarantees both the protection of minors and the anonymity of users.
“To obtain the +18/21 credential, users must prove their age of majority only once through the Gataca wallet in a process completely independent of the adult content platform they wish to access,” the rep added. “Once obtained, the credential can be reused for future access and on different websites. The initial process includes a scan of the identity document and a selfie, a unique procedure that takes less than a minute to complete.
The process is designed for multiple sectors.
“Two credentials are issued: one certifying the age of majority and another corresponding to the Verified Identity Document,” said the rep. “The latter simplifies future digital verifications in contexts other than the adult sector. With Gataca's digital wallet, users can store and manage a wide variety of credentials, such as driver's licenses, academic diplomas, health cards, or work credentials, facilitating their use and sharing in a secure and efficient manner.
“This approach is aligned with the European eIDAS regulation, which has been in force since May 2024, obliging Member States to offer a European Digital Identity Wallet within the next 24 months,” the rep added. “Key sectors, both public and private (transport, energy, banking, healthcare, education, among others), will have to accept them as a method of authentication, soon becoming part of everyday life.”
