HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Adam & Eve has released the results of a survey asking respondents if they have ever felt coerced into sex.
Among the respondents, 60% said they had felt coerced into sex at some point. Of these, nearly 40% of those polled (33% of the males and 51% of the females) said they had been verbally coerced into having sex, while 20% (22% of the females and 19% of the males) said they had been physically coerced. Another 40% said they had never felt coerced into sex.
“Sexual coercion is a form of sexual abuse that involves using pressure, manipulation, or threats to push someone into engaging in unwanted sexual activity,” said Adam & Eve’s resident sexologist, Dr. Jenni Skyler. “It can look like love bombing, lies, isolation, cultural abuse, or forcing drugs or alcohol on someone to have sex against their will. In a healthy relationship, both partners feel comfortable with the level of sexual activity at any given time.”
The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third-party survey company of over 1,000 American adults age 18 and up, was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices.
