Mainstream movies have the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the New York Film Critics Circle, while the adult film/video industry has the X-Rated Critics Organization.
This is the 20th anniversary of XRCO, which was established in 1984. The organization consists of working critics who review porn for adult print publications and websites.
Vivid Video dominates this year’s Best Film category, with three out of four of the nominees. They are: “Heart of Darkness,” “Looking In,” and “Sordid.” Elegant Angel’s “Compulsion” is also nominated for Best Film.
In the Best Video category, Private is nominated for “Acid Dreams,” Wicked Pictures for “Beautiful,” Digital Playground for “No Limits,” Elegant Angel for “Opera,” and Adam & Eve for “Rawhide.”
Axel Braun, Jules Jordan, Jonathan Morgan, Michael Raven, and Paul Thomas are competing for Best Director. Mary Carey’s campaign for governor in California’s recall election has earned her a nomination in the Mainstream’s Adult Media Favorite category. Carey is running against Jenna Jameson, Ron Jeremy, and Belladonna for this award.
The latter star is also nominated in the Female Performer of the Year category. Her fellow nominees are Ashley Blue, Aurora Snow, Devinn Lane, and Taylor Rain. Lexington Steele, Erik Everhard, Manuel Ferrera, Michael Stefano, and Randy Spears are up for the Male Performer of the Year award.
Other categories include: Best Comedy or Parody; Best Gonzo Series; Teen Cream Dream; Superslut; Girl/Girl; Group Scene; and more.
In addition to bestowing awards in around 20 categories, the XRCO reviewers vote for an adult Hall of Fame. The first movie in this porn pantheon is “Deep Throat,” followed by “Behind the Green Door.” The first actress voted into the Hall of Fame are “Devil in Miss Jones” star Georgina Spelvin. The first actor in the Hall is John Holmes, followed by Harry Reems. “Auxiliary” Hall of Famers include Hustler publisher Larry Flynt, Screw Magazine publisher Al Goldstein, and sex columnist and author Susie Bright.
The Century Club’s doors open for the XRCO awards event at 7:00 p.m. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. and is not open to the public. Admission is by invitation only for members of the adult industry.
