“My heart belongs to Brazil,” Bell said. “I love absolutely everything about the country and I want to see its beauty preserved. It’s my duty as a filmmaker who shoots solely in Brazil, to do my part to protect its most precious asset.”
Funds raised will go to the Amazon Region Protected Area (ARPA) program, a branch of the WWF that specifically targets efforts toward protection of the Amazonian rainforests and its inhabitants.
According to WWF, the Amazon houses close to one-third of all species in the world and is seen as an important resource for carbon storage, hydrology and rainfall, pharmaceuticals and fisheries. The Amazon also is the only remaining refuge for such species as the jaguar, harpy eagle, two-toed sloths and other rare and endangered species.
The ARPA was founded in 2002 in a joint venture between the WWF, World Bank, the Global Environmental Facility and the Brazilian Government. The project includes more than 80 reserves and parks that are monitored by ARPA, effectively preventing deforestation over an area the size of California.
AMG Promotions Manager Christopher Trout pointed out the company’s commitment to supporting social and environmental causes.
“We are living in a time when action should be obligatory. We’ve spent the past century destroying our planet and now we’ve come to a place where action is not just important, it’s a necessity,” Trout said.
