Fans Reign Down at L.A. Adultcon

LOS ANGELES — Despite the first big rainstorm in recent memory, attendees flooded the Los Angeles Convention Center for the 13th annual Adultcon, held Sept. 21-23. One of the most “fan-centric” events of the year, the show gives ample opportunity for the public to meet their favorite adult performers and purchase DVDs, as well as lots of photo opportunities.

“This show is crazy,” performer Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile, told XBIZ. “Fans are jumping up and down and grabbing everything. I have two booths and a lot of fans coming up to me for pictures. I’m about to fall over — but it’s fun and it’s exciting and I’d do it a hundred times over.”

The no-frills format of Adultcon was held in the Convention Center’s South Hall for the first time, and this year saw more booths than in previous years. Paysite XVisionProd.net greeted fans at the door, proving that a pole and a bunch of pretty girls are always guaranteed to draw attention.

Being in the back row certainly didn’t hurt Tera Patrick, whose line was consistently long throughout the event as fans lined up to purchase her newest Vivid release, “Flawless,” as well as other merchandise from her production company Teravision.

“I actually love to be able to be the one to hand them the product,” Patrick told XBIZ, “so, that’s what’s great about this event. It’s fun to see who’s in line, and I get all kinds of people; men , women, couples — I even have a lot of gay fans that come and want to have their picture taken with me. So, I enjoy meeting everybody.”

Patrick’s rocker husband Evan Seinfeld also was there to greet fans. He told XBIZ that Teravision will soon be launching a gonzo line under the new Iron Cross imprint. The first release will be available sometime around Halloween and features some heavyweight talent including Hillary Scott, Jenaveve Jolie, Gia Paloma, Annette Schwarz, Lexi Bardot and Jayna Oso.

At one point, SexZ Pictures contract star Paulina James dropped by the Teravision booth so that the brunette beauties could have a few photos together.

James, whose mini-documentary/travelogue “Being Paulina: In Tokyo” was just screened at the Los Angeles Erotica Film Festival, told XBIZ she will be shooting more travel footage on her upcoming cruise vacation to Acapulco.

At the All Play Media booth, James signed for fans as public relations guru Jeff Mullen sold copies of newly released “Not the Bradys XXX” as fast as he could put them out on the table.

“It’s been great,” Mullen told XBIZ. “We have had a good time. People are really freaking out with ‘Not the Bradys XXX’ and it just puts an exclamation point on my original thought that this title is going to be a big seller.

“Out the door, it’s already breaking records. It’s the biggest feature movie at Hustler/LFP this year, and it’s our biggest feature ever, out the door,” Mullen said. “If retailers continue to put this on their shelves, it will sell and there will be zero returns — that might be a record.”

2007 Adultcon Award winner and newly signed Déjà Vu exclusive contract dancer Sunny Lane appeared for fans wearing the diamond necklace presented to her in honor of her Adultcon award.

“This has been an exciting month for me,” Lane told XBIZ. “I’ve been home for a few weeks and signed a contract to represent Déjà Vu as their exclusive feature dancer. I was also interviewed for ‘Geraldo at Large.’

“It’s just great to be here at Adultcon and be able to share this all with my fans. Winning the award for 'Slut Puppies 2' and working with Jules Jordan was awesome and it's wonderful to be recognized. I love entertaining and having fun, so this is a really great place to be,” Lane said.

At Lynn LeMay’s LeMayzing Entertainment booth, a camera crew from Showtime had stopped for some footage, as they made their way through the show floor.

After shooting a quick interview for Showtime, LeMay said that on Friday, adult performers Veronica Rayne and her fiancé Jack Vegas had been injured in a traffic collision right outside the Convention Center while on their way to the show.

According to LeMay, Vegas was not hurt, but Rayne suffered injuries in the accident. Rayne, who is a LeMayzing contract performer, was released from the hospital on Friday night after the incident with some damage to her right rotator cuff.

Performer/agent Shy Love showed up to Adultcon in force, with several models from her Adult Talent Management agency.

And a few newbie performers took the opportunity to promote themselves; Madison Scott, with only three titles under her belt, was seen making the party rounds at last week’s Offset Entertainment party for Sean Michaels and the Los Angeles Erotica Film Festival. She impressed the Adultcon crowd demonstrating her impressive flexibility while posing for pictures.

The laidback atmosphere of the event allowed young and seasoned performers to reach out to new customers and loyal fans.

“It’s pretty good,” performer Kimberly Kane told XBIZ. “People are buying.”

Fetish directress Julie Simone said also that the crowd and sales were “better than in the past.”

Veteran director Roy Karch was seen hanging out at the VCX company booth with VCX President David Sutton.

“We’ve been having a good time,” Sutton told XBIZ. “It’s more informal and a lot easier than the AVN show.”

The list of adult stars on the show floor included 2007 Adultcon Award winner Jack Lawrence, Evan Stone, Devon Lee and her husband Marcus London, Tee Reel, James Bartholet, Roxy Jezel, Gina Lynn, Nautica Thorn, Luscious Lopez, Cherokee, Syren, D'Bella, Anastasia Pierce, Smokin' Mary Jane, Nyomi Banxxx, Sophie Dee, Regan Reece, Emma Cummings, Keeani Lei, Darryl Hanah, Kaci Starr, Savannah Jane, Jen X, Bettie Rage, Daejha Milan, Heather Gates, Liv Wylder and Adrianna Sage, among others.

Fans also shopped at retailer booths including Fukmor lifestyles wear, Poon-Tang’s Menz Sportswear, Deliciously Evil women’s apparel, Exclusively 4 Men Hair Studios and Earthly Body massage oil candles, to name a few.
