Google Trends: Sex Fascinates Middle East

CYBERSPACE — Despite the perceived decadence of liberal democracies like the U.S., Eastern and Middle Eastern countries lead the way in Google searches for sex.

This report comes from Internet giant Google itself and the company's self-published Internet trends.

Leading the way in searches for the keyword "sex" were Egypt, India and Turkey. Chile, Mexico and Columbia topped the world in searches about the word "gay," while Nazis and Hitler continue to capture the imaginations of Google searchers in Germany, Austria and Mexico.

Some of the U.S.' most popular key words include "Iraq," "hangover," "marijuana," "love" and "burrito" — though not necessarily in that order.

Other popular search terms include:

"Hangover" — Ireland, U.K., U.S.
