Yahoo Hit With $3 Million Suit Over Nude Photos

PORTLAND, Ore. — Yahoo Inc. has been hit with a lawsuit by an Oregon woman who alleges the Internet site failed to remove nude pictures of her from the web.

Cecilia Barnes, in her lawsuit filed Tuesday in Multnomah County, claims a former boyfriend posted photos of her, as well as profiles that include an address and phone number, without her consent.

Further, the ex-boyfriend engaged in online discussions in Yahoo chat rooms, posing as Barnes and directing men to the profiles, the suit said.

As a result, “unknown men would arrive without warning at plaintiff's work expecting to engage in sexual relations with her," the suit claimed.

The 48-year-old Barnes, claiming damages of $3 million, sent Yahoo a letter in January saying she did not create the profiles and wanted them removed.

Attempts to get Yahoo to remove them in February and March failed to prompt a response, the suit said.

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo did not return calls to XBiz for comment on the matter.
